General Chao
The crowning jewel of Sydney’s Chatswood District Dining precinct, General Chao is a modern (re)interpretation of a traditional Shanghai tea house. The brief was to create a space that reflects and underpins the dramatic flair and creativity of head chef Son Sewoo’s modern pan-Asian menu, while remaining as open as possible.
A mixture of traditional and modern lighting, joinery, furniture, and colour create unique pockets within the space, allowing the 187-seat fine dining restaurant with soaring roofs to feel familiar and inviting. Bold, playful, and unapologetic, General Chao creates an unforgettable late-night experience for patrons.
